2、eville,Paris,Prague,Alexandria,Fez,andMoscow,aswellastheIFLAMILRecommendationsandtheGlobalAllianceforPartnershipsonMILFrameworkandActionPlan.stThe21centurydigitalenvironmentisdeeplyaffectingthemeaninganduseofmediaandinformation.Itrequirescontinuousinnovationinresearchandpracticeformediaandinformatio

3、nliteracy.ThisdeclarationforegroundsMIL-centredanswerstothisrequirementfornewliteraciesintheincreasinglywidespreadinformationenvironmentthatsurroundsyoungpeopleandadultsalike,evenwhilewerecognisethatmanypeopleworldwidearenotyetInternet-connected.Takingstockofthenewenvironmentthatrequiresrenewedempha

4、sisonMILContinuoustechnologicaldevelopmentscreateandmediatiseanever-growingamountofcontentandinformationaswellasnewonlinespaces.Theyintroducenewissues,challengesandpossibilitiesastheInternetscenariogoesmobile,ubiquitousandmultiplatform.Individualsgainmorecontrolovertheirrolesasmediacreatorsandcritic

5、s,andnotonlyconsumers.Socialmediaandsocialnetworksitestakeonaddedrelevance,astheyserveasreferencestonewformsofsocialinteractionaswellasnewrightsandparticipationmodelssuchasglobalcitizenshipinadigitalage.Thesedevelopmentsgiverisetoaddedopportunitiesandchallengestoallstakeholdersandpractitionerstoensu

6、remediaandinformationliteracyforcitizenstonavigatesuchenhancedflowsofcommunicationeffectively.MILbecomesincreasinglynecessaryinthecontextofsuchdevelopmentsinmediaaswellastheeconomic,politicalandsocietalchangestheyentail.Thesechangesinclude:mediaindustriesasbigplayers;educationpoliciesthatfocusonecon
