5、nersofEnglishoftenexperiencedifficultiesinEnglishlexicalstressperception.Thishastraditionallybeenattributedtotransferofprosodicunitorsettingsfromtheirfirstlanguage(L1).Similarly,theproblemofChineselearnerswithEnglishstressperceptionwasassumedtoarisefromtonaltransfer.However,litt
6、leresearchhasbeendevotedtotheinvestigationofthephoneticdetailsofsecondlanguage(L2)stressperception.ThepresentresearchfocusesontheperceptionofEnglishlexicalstressbyChineselearnersofEnglish.ThepurposeofthisstudyistorevealtheuseofacousticcuesinstressperceptionbyChineselearnersofEng
7、lish.Intheexperiment,F0,durationandintensityweremanipulated,eachwithfivesteps,onthreedisyllabicnonsensewordstoresultinatotalof375nonsensetokens.AgroupofnativespeakersofEnglish(NE)andagroupofChineselearnersofEnglish(CE)participatedinthestudyandjudgedwhetherthestressivwasonthefirs
