1、ApprenticeshipTraininginAustria–TheDualSystemInAustriaapprenticeshiptrainingtakesplacesattwodifferentsites:company-basedtrainingofapprenticesiscomplementedbycompulsoryattendanceofapart-timevocationalschoolforapprentices[Berufsschule].Thus,apprenticeshiptrainingisalsoreferredtoas"dualvocationalt

2、rainingsystem"oras"dualsystem".Currentlyabout40percentofallAustrianteenagersenterapprenticeshiptraininguponcompletionofcompulsoryeducation.Butalthoughtheoverallnumberofapprenticesjustasthenumberofthoseenteringapprenticeshiptraininghasbeengoingbacksince1981,1997sawthediscontinuationofthistrend,f

3、orthenumberofnewapprenticesincreasedagain.Uponcompletionofapprenticeshiptrainingabout40to44percentofallapprenticescontinuetoworkforthecompanywheretheyweretrained.Allinallabout40,000companiestrainapproximately120,000apprentices,whichcorrespondstoanaverageof3apprenticespercompany.Thepercentageoff

4、emaleapprenticesincreasedslightlybetween1975and1989,buthasbeendecreasingeversince1990fallingtoamere31percentin1996.Themostpopularapprenticeshiptradesamonggirlsareretail-trademerchant,followedbyhairdresserandofficeclerk.Amongmaleapprenticesthemostpopularoccupationsaremotor-vehiclemechanic,follow

5、edbyelectrician.Morethan50percentofallapprenticesaretrainedforthecraftsmen'strades,otherimportantsectorsarecommerce(16%),theindustry(11%)andtourismandtheleisureindustry(10%).Company-basedtrainingisregulatedbytheFederalMinistryofEconomicAffairsandLabourwhilepedagogicalmattersfallintotheprovinceo

6、ftheFederalMinistryofEducation,ScienceandCulture.Apprenticesmayonlybetrainedinthelegallyrecognizedapprenticeshiptrades.Theseskilledtrades(presentlyapproximately240)areincludedinthelistofapprenticeshiptrades[Lehrberufsliste]publishedbytheFederalMinistryofEconomicAffairsandLabourinco-operationwit

7、htheFederalMinistryofSocialSecurityandGenerations.Moreover,thereare14legallyrecognizedapprenticeshiptradesintheagricultureandforestrysectorwhicharenotincludedinthelist.Thelistcontainsthevariousoccupationsandinformsabouttheduration
