2、urceLangue(SL)textandaTargetLanguage(TL)text.Ourconceptionofequivalenceissupportedbyamoderntext-linguistictheorythatconsidersthatthetextistheunitofanalysisofthecommunicativeeventand,astranslationitselfisseenasacommunicativeevent,thenitturnsoutlogicalthatitshouldbestudiedfromamodernte

3、xt-linguisticapproach.Abriefbackgroundisprovidedtosupportthisperspective.However,thisisapointofviewnotnecessarilysharedbyallmoderntranslationtheoristsand,therefore,twoantagonisticpositionsintranslationtheoryaswellasthecriticismagainstLinguistics/Text-orientedTheories(TOT)areanalyzed.

4、ThenargumentsforandagainstthenotionofequivalencewithinTOTandCOT(Non-Linguistics/Context-orientedTheories)arediscussedindetailandnewperspectivesreviewed.Finally,equivalencewithintheframeworkofaDynamicTranslationModel(DTM)isdiscussedandabriefillustrationofitsapplicationintranslationcri

6、sticsifagradualapproximationtoexplainingitsnaturewasusedbeginningwiththerevisionofthecontributionStructuralLinguisticsandGenerativeTransformationalGrammarcouldeventuallymaketotheunderstandingofthisparticularcaseoflanguagesincontact,knownastranslation.Itturnedoutthatnotmuchwastobeexpe
