5、uentinnovation.Resultsfromalongitudinalstudyoffirmsintheinternationalchemicalsindustryindicatesupportforthepredictionsondirectandindirectties,butintheinter-firmcollaborationnetwork,increasingstructuralholeshasanegativeeffectoninnovation.Amongtheimplica-tionsforinterorganizationalnetworktheoryisthatt
6、heoptimalstructureofinterfirmnetworksdependsontheobjectivesofthenetworkmembers.@Severalrecentstudieshaveindicatedthatthepositionsoffirmsininterorganizationanletworksinfluencefirmbehaviorandoutcomes(e.g.,Powell,Koput,andWalker,Smith-Doerr1,996;Kogut,andShan,1997).Becauseoftheirfacilitativeroleinvario
