2、nderedculturalencounterorcontactaneverydayphenomenon.Travellingoverseasunavoidablybringspeopleofdifferentculturestogether,thuscreatingthepossibilityofculturalcontactandconflict,butthesweetsoundofatourguidecouldeasilydispelone’scomplexfeelingsofbeinganalieninaforeigncountryandclearuppossiblemis
3、understandingsbetweentouristsandlocalinhabitants.Merchantsfrommulti-nationalcompanieshavetoworkwithpeopleofdifferentcountrieseveryday,butthefactthatpeopleofdifferentcountriesspeakdifferentlanguagescouldbeahugehindrancetopotentialbusinessopportunities.Fortunately,andperhapsmisfortunatelyaswell,
4、theparticipationofwhatwewouldcallinthispaper“culturalbrokers”suchasinterpreters,ortouristguidesneverfailstoensurethesmoothoperationofbusinesstransactionsortouristjourneys.Eitherbeingatourguideorbeinganinterpreterisfundamentallythesame,becausebothfunctionasamediumoranagentwhoseresponsibilityist
