2、salmostrenderedculturalencounterorcontactaneverydayphenomenon.Travellingoverseasunavoidablybringspeopleofdifferentculturestogether,thuscreatingthepossibilityofculturalcontactandconflict,butthesweetsoundofatourguidecouldeasilydispelone’scomplexfeelingsofbeinganalieninaforeigncountryand
3、clearuppossiblemisunderstandingsbetweentouristsandlocalinhabitants.Merchantsfrommulti-nationalcompanieshavetoworkwithpeopleofdifferentcountrieseveryday,butthefactthatpeopleofdifferentcountriesspeakdifferentlanguagescouldbeahugehindrancetopotentialbusinessopportunities.Fortunately,andp
4、erhapsmisfortunatelyaswell,theparticipationofwhatwewouldcallinthispaper“culturalbrokers”suchasinterpreters,ortouristguidesneverfailstoensurethesmoothoperationofbusinesstransactionsortouristjourneys.Eitherbeingatourguideorbeinganinterpreterisfundamentallythesame,becausebothfunctionasam
5、ediumoranagentwhoseresponsibilityistofacilitatethecommunicationamongpeopleofdifferentculturesandbeliefs.Facilitationofcommunicationamongdifferentpeoplefromdifferentculturesanddifferentlanguagesistermed“culturebrokering”.Differentdefinitionsofculturalbrokeringhavebeenputforwardbyschola
