2、iting.Ahypothesiswasput forward:ChineseEFLlearners’useofgrammaticalmetaphorinacademicwritingincreaseswith theriseoftheirlanguageproficiency.Thestudyinvestigatedtheuseofgrammaticalmetaphorin totalaswellastheuseofeachkindofgrammaticalmetaphorundertheframeworkoftripartite divisionproposedbyHa
3、llidayandMartin,asinideationalmetaphor,interpersonalmetaphorand textualmetaphor.Therefore,tworesearchquestionswereanswered:1.Doestheuseof grammaticalmetaphorinChineseEFLlearners’writingrisewiththeirlanguageproficiency?2. Howdothethreekindsofgrammaticalmetaphorscorrelatewithlanguageproficie
4、ncy? Thestudywasquantitativeinnature.54EnglishmajorsinShantouUniversitywereinvolved asitssubjectsandacorpuswasbuiltupoutoftheabstractsoftheirgraduationtheses. Meanwhile,thisstudytookthesubjects’TEM-8scoresasthemeasurementoftheirlanguage proficiency,anddividedthemintothreegroupsofdifferentl
5、anguageproficiency.Instancesof grammaticalmetaphorswerequantifiedinordertodiscoverthetrendofitsdeploymentamong thethreegroups.Descriptiveanalysis,one-wayANOVAandnon-parametrictestswere ---conductedwiththehelpofSPSS17.0tofindoutthedifferencesbetweenthethreegroupsin usinggrammaticalmetaphor.
6、Thestylisticvaluesandfunctionsintext-constructionofthe instancesofgrammaticalmetaphorsusedbythesubjectswereanalyzedafterwards,inorderto findoutthepossiblereasonsofthestatisticalresults.Theresultsverifiedthehypothesisthatlanguageproficiencyhassignificantinfluenceonthe deploymentofgrammatica
