2、imilarly,alargenumberoftextbooksareavailabletodescribetheapplicationsofthesetechnologiesinindustry.However,therehasbeenagenerallackofappreciationofthesignificantdevelopmentsindownstreamprocessingandisolationtechnology,theneedforwhichislargelydrivenbythestringentregulatoryrequirementsforpur

3、ityandqualityofinjectablebiopharmaceuticals.Thisisparticularlyreflectedbythegeneralabsenceofcoverageofthissubjectinmanybiotechnologyandrelatedcoursesineducationalinstitutions.ForaconsiderablewhileIhavefeltthatthereisincreasingneedforanintroductorytexttovariousaspectsofdownstreamprocessing,

4、particularlywithrespecttotheneedsofthebiopharmaceuticalandbiotechnologyindustry.Althoughtherearenumeroustextsthatcovervariousaspectsofproteinpurificationtechniquesinisolation,thereisaneedforaworkthatcoversthebroadrangeofisolationtechnologyinanindustrialsetting.ItisanticipatedthatDownstream

5、ProcessingofProteins:MethodsandProtocolswillplayasmallpartinfillingthisgapandthusproveausefulcontributiontothefield.Itisalsodesignedtoencourageeducationalstrategiststobroadenthecoverageofthesetopicsinindustrialbiotechnologycoursesbyincludingaccountsofthisimportantandrapidlydevelopingelemen

6、toftheindustrialprocess.Thehopeisthatthiswillresultingraduateshavingareasonableunderstandingofdownstreamprocessingprinciplesandtechniques,andthusbebetterpreparedtofulfilltheever-increasingdemandforcompetentisolationscientistsinindustries.Thisis,ofcourse,achievedwiththehelpofthededicatedcon
