4、phoneticfeaturesthatspeakersfromdifferentplaceshave.Notonlycanpeople’sfirstlanguagebeevidenceoftheirhometown，theirsecondlanguagecanalsogiveaclue.OneintriguingobservationisthatnativeSichuandialectspeakerstendtohavedistinctivewaysofarticulating[l]and[n]whenspeakingEnglish.

5、Todate，fewliteratureisavailabletoaccountfortherulesunderlyingthealternation.　　Asforwhether[l]and[n]areinterchangeableinSichuandialect，theopinionsvary.Somescholarssuggestthat[n]inSichuandialectfunctionsas[n]and[l]inStandardMandarin（Wang1994，Zhou2001），andWang（1994）statesth

6、at[n]inSichuandialectisdifferentfromthenasalconsonant[n]inStandardMandarin.Instead，itisanasalized[l]，namely，[l?].However，Ma&Tan（1998）pointsoutthat[l]and[n]bothexistsinSichuandialect，andtheyareinfreevariation.Besides，oneoftheparticipantsinterviewed，whoisanativespeakerofSi
