4、ionsequipmentsalesofUS$335billion.Thevaluecreatedbyuseoftelecommunicationsservicesisestimatedtobefarhigherthanthetotalservicesrevenue.ThusinvestmentinICTinfrastructurecreatesvaluemanytimesthatoftheinvestmentitself.//FirmlevelstudiesshowthatICTinvestmentshelpfirmsgaincompetiti

5、venessthroughimprovedefficiency,reducedinventories,betterdesigns,andfasterratesofinnovation.ICTallowsfirmstoincreasetheefficiencyoftheirbusinessprocessesbydecreasingprocurementandtransactioncosts,improvingaccountingandcontrol,enhancingmanagementsystems,andstreamliningtheirsup

6、plychains.//SeveralstudiesalsoindicatethatICTisakeydriverofproductivityandgrowth.ThereareseveraldistinctivefeaturesofICTthatmakethemparticularlyimportanttonationalandregionaleconomies,whichincludethepervasiveandcross-cuttingnatureofICT,thelowordecliningmarginalcostsofusingthe

7、technologies,theabilitytofosterefficiencygainsthroughstreamliningsupplychains,thefacilitationofthecreationofentirelynewbusinessmodelsandindustries,andtheglobalnatureofICT.//AllofthesecharacteristicsimplythatICTcanhaveanimportantimpactoncompetitivenessandeconomicdevelopment.//
