2、rsusadolescentsinEgyptians.Methods:Threesampleswereinvestigated:a)Asampleof605infantsaged6months+1week(287girlsand318boys).b)Asampleof992infantsofage4¡«24months(465girlsand527boys).c)Asampleof1864childrenandadolescentsaged6¡«14yearsof(744girlsand1120boys).Allsampl

3、esarefromBigCairoareaofbothurbanandrurallocalitiesandofvarioussocioeconomicstrata.Bodyweightandlength/heighthadbeenmeasuredandbodymassindex(BMI)hadbeencalculatedforeverysubject.Assessmentoftheimpactofparentaleducationlevel,localityandnumberofsibs,ongrowthandnutrit

4、ionasindicatedbyBMIwasattempted.Results:a)Breastfedinfants(6months+1week)growbiggerinlowsocioeconomicstrataandinruralareasthanartificiallyfedinfants.Thepracticeofbreastfeedingwasmorecommonand26lastedlongerinlowsocioeconomicstratumthaninmiddleandhighone.b)Asignific

5、antpositiveassociationbetweenbodymassindexofinfants(4¡«24months)andthesocioeconomicstatus(particularlyleveloffathereducationreflectingfamilyincome)wasproved.c)ThesocioeconomicfactorshadinsignificantinfluenceonBMIofschoolchildrenaged6¡«9years,butitshowedsignificant

6、influenceintheperiod10¡«14years.Aftertheageof9years,childrenstartedthepubertalstageearlierandhadhigherBMIinthehighsocioeconomicstrataascomparedtothoseoflowsocioeconomicstrata.d)Inthelowsocioeconomicstatus,breastfeedingcompensatesthedeleteriousinfluencesoftheenviro

7、nmentongrowthandphysiqueofinfants.Conclusion:childrenofeducatedparentshavesignificantlylownumberofsiblings'sizeincomparisontothoseofuneducatedparents.Alsochildrenofeducatedparentsaresignificantlymoreinnumberinurbanareasthaninruralareas,andviceversa.Theinterdepende
