4、elopedbythe16th-centuryarchitectAndreaPalladio.TheAdamchildrengrewupintheculturedatmosphereofapropertiedandwell-connected18th-centuryfamily.ShortlyafterRobert’sbirththefamilymovedtoEdinburgh,whereattheageofsixheenteredtheEdinburghHighSchool.In1743heenroll
5、edatTown’sCollege(nowUniversityofEdinburgh),butin1745heabandonedhisstudiesandthefollowingyearenteredhisfather’sofficeasanapprenticeandassistant.WilliamAdamdiedin1748,andhisBoardofOrdnancepostpassedtohiseldestson,John,whotookRobertintopartnership.Inthesucc
