3、nowledgeofthesystemandtheparametersofthesemodelsareestimatedfromavailableexperimentaldata.Thisprocedureistimeconsumingandsub-optimal.Automationofthisprocesswouldmeanthatamuchlargerrangeofpotentialmodelstructurecouldbeinvestigatedmorequickly.Geneticprogramming(GP)isanoptim

4、izationmethodwhichcanbeusedtooptimizethenonlinearstructureofadynamicsystembyautomaticallyselectingmodelstructureelementsfromadatabaseandcombiningthemoptimallytoformacompletemathematicalmodel.Geneticprogrammingworksbyemulatingnaturalevolutiontogenerateamodelstructurethatma

5、ximizes(orminimizes)someobjectivefunctioninvolvinganappropriatemeasureofthelevelofagreementbetweenthemodelandsystemresponse.Apopulationofmodelstructuresevolvesthroughmanygenerationstowardsasolutionusingcertainevolutionaryoperatorsanda“survival-of-the-fittest”selectionsche
