3、dthecontextisthebasisonwhichthemeaningofawordrelies.Soitisveryimportantforustohaveathoroughunderstandingoftheinfluenceofcontextonwordcomprehensionandmakeuseoftheirrestrictiverelationshiptounderstandthenewandpolysemouswordsandconfirmtheirmeaningsinthetext.Thatistosay,theu
4、singandunderstandingoflanguageareofteninfluencedbytheenvironmentoflanguageuse.Thisenvironmentcanbecalledasthesocialenvironment，anaturalphenomenon，theco-contextofadiscourseortheprecedingandfollowingpartsofaparagraph.Thesefactorscanbedefinedaslanguageenvironmentorcontext.
5、Contextisrichinconnotationanddiversity.Therearesomanyviewpointsonthedefinitionsandfunctionsofcontext.Theconceptionof “context”hasgraduallybeengivenincreasingattentionatdifferentlevelsoflanguageunitsandindifferentaspectsoflanguagestudy,suchasinsyntax,phonetics,rhetoric,li
6、teratureandeveninlogic.Itispragmaticswhichputcontextinthefirstplaceinunderstandingutterancemeaning.Therefore,thisthesisisgoingtodealwithhowcontextinfluencewordsincommunicationandreading.Contextincludesalldirectaswellasindirectfactorsthatinfluencetheproductionallinterpret
