4、体和喻义看英汉比喻性习语的文化差异[摘要]比喻性习语在英汉语言中大量存在,但由于两种语言反映的文化不同,使得英汉习语在比喻形象的运用上存在明显差异。作为一种语言现象,英汉习语显现出共性与个性的特征。然而,文化是决定习语喻体形象选择的重要因素。喻体出自不同民族之习语,其喻义相距甚远,承载着不同的社会文化涵义。很多英汉习语无论在字面上,还是在内涵上,都表达同样的意义,表现相同的文化现象,在很多方面都显示出一致的特征。这反映了人类文化的一般进化在人类文明发展过程中各民族在生活经历、思想认识上所存在的共性。这些共性使作为
5、交流工具的语言在本质上有某些共同特征。东西方通用性的喻体一旦与民族特定的心理因素、文化背景联系起来,在跨文化的语言交际中就会产生附加在文字信息之上的“超语言信息”。本文主要从喻体和喻义的角度分析英汉比喻性习语的文化差异。[关键词]文化差异;喻体;喻义1.Introduction “Languageisthecarrierofculture,andidiomsarethecreamofalanguage”.[1]WhatidiomsincludeinbothEnglishandChineseisalmost
6、thesame.Boththephrasesandsentencesareformedbecauselanguageshavebeenusedforalongtime.However,idiomisrestrictedbyculture,relatingtothegeography,history,economy,custom,faith,psychologyandvalueoftheirnations.Idiomsusepropermetaphorgenerally,butsomemetaphoricalnou
7、nsareverysusceptibletoculture.Thatisbecausetheobjectstheyrefertoarecommon.Everynation’sunderstandingtotheirappearancesisthesame,buttheirculturalbackgroundsaredifferent,therefore,theirmetaphoricalmeaningscouldbedifferent.So,theycometothevehicleswithdifferentco
8、ncepts.TheidiomsaboundintheEnglishandChineselanguages.Theidiom,inbroadsense,isausageandaspecialexpressionacceptedinanationallanguage.InChineseandEnglishidioms,metaphorisoneofthemostcommon
