2、acherrelationships,nurturetheexplorationofnewideas,andencouragestudent-centered,lifelonglearning.TheGraduationProjectasimplementedatSpringCreekHighSchoolhasfourmajorcomponents,listedasfollows:§Aresearchpaperonatopicofthestudent’schoicedemonstratingresear
3、chskillsandwritingskills(6-8pages)§Aproductfocusingontheapplicationofknowledgeandskills(minimum15hours)§Aportfolioreflectingthestudent’sprogressthroughthefour-yeargraduationprojectexperience(reflectivedocumentationlog)§Anoralpresentationcommunicatingthes
4、tudent’sworkbeforeareviewpanel(8-10minutesinlength).Together,thefourcomponentsoftheNCGraduationProjectembracetheapplicationofauniquesetofskillsandabilitiestobedemonstratedbystudents.Asstudentsprogressthroughdevelopingtheresearchpaper,creatingaproduct,bui
5、ldingaportfolio,anddeliveringanoralpresentation,theywilldemonstratehowwelltheycanusewhattheyknowandhavebeentaught.Appropriate,adequatesupportandguidancefromthestudent’sacademicadvisorandmentorwillenableeachstudent’ssuccessfulcompletionoftheGraduationProj
6、ect.ResearchPaperPurpose:Usingtheprocessapproachtowritingtheresearchpaper,studentswilldemonstratetheiruseofcriticalthinkingandplanningskillstobeginexplorationontheirchosentopic.Theresearchpaperisacompositeofmanyliteracyskillsincludingknowledgeacquisition
7、,validationofthecredibilityandcurrencyofsources,aswellasthesortingandselectionofappropriateinformation.Studentswilldemonstratetheirabilitytodevelopasuitabletopic,conductthenecessaryresearch,andwriteproficientlyaboutaself-selectedsubject.AtSpringCreekHigh
