3、tiveresearchonsmallodontocetes(toothedwhales)fromthisperspectiveisvirtuallyabsent.AnAcousticVideo-Task(AVT)isdescribedinwhichasmallwhaleordolphintracksacursoronavideodisplayusingsoundproductionsforcursorcontrol.Possiblecontrolsoundsincludefrequencymodulatedpure-tonewhistles.Frequencyvariations
4、houldbeanaturalcontroldimensionforanimalsthatproducefrequencymodulatedsounds(Herman&Tavolga,1980).Ofinterestistheanimals'abilitytousevisualinputandacousticproductionstopredictivelytrackoranticipatevariationincursorlocation.Thestudyexaminesserialanticipationlearningandsensorimotoradaptabilityin
5、smallodontocetes.AVTisanewtechnologyusefulwithsmallwhalesanddolphinsthatprovidesseveralbenefits:(i)abionomically(ergonomicsfornonhumananimals)suitedinteractionmechanism,(ii)amethodforcomparativestudy,and(iii)aninitialplatformforinvestigationscenteredaroundmodelsofcommunicativeexchangethroughac
6、ousticinteraction.AcousticallyControlledCursorTracking32INTRODUCTIONSensorimotoradaptabilityandserialanticipationlearninginmarinemammalshavenotbeenstudiedusingtrackingtasks.Thisresearchwillexaminetheabilitiesofsmallwhalesordolphinstoperformacursortrackingtask,throughtheuseofanAcousticThetermac
