2、fectedbycultureandalsoreflectsculture.ThelinguistDengyanchangwhohaveeversaid:"Languageisthecarrierofcultureandplaysanoverwhelmingpartinculture."Wordsinlanguagearethemostoutstandingreflectionofcultureandembodythesocialculturalfeaturesofanationtothefull.Therefor
3、e,anoverwhelmingmajorityofwordspossessspecificculturalmessages.Alanguageisinfluencedtovariousdegreesbyitsnationalculture.Asthefundamentalcomponentofalanguage,wordsarethepillaronwhichthelarge-scalelanguagesystemcanentirelydependandalsobearamarkedbrandofthenatio
4、nalculture.Whenboileddowntoanindividualword,itissafetosaythatthemeaningofawordgoesfarbeyondwhatitreferstoinsomeobjectiveknown,pre-givenworld,butincludestheworldofculturalandsocialunderstandingitbringsintobeingwhenused.Hence,whilelearningaword,weshouldstartfrom
5、thefollowingtwoaspects.Onerefersto"referentmeaning",theother"connotativemeaning"."referentmeaning"isactuallytheliberalmeaningofwords,whichexpressestherelationsamonglinguisticfactors---theinternalrelationoflanguage.But,"connotativemeaning"istheculturalandsocial
6、meaningofwords,whichnotonlyillustratestherelationsamonglinguisticfactorsitself,butalsoamongnon-linguisticfactorsaswellasamongtherelevantsocietyandculture.Intheprocessofacquiringwords,onlythroughthesetwowayscanwegraspthewordspreciselyandcompletely.Otherwise,int
7、hecourseofcross-culturalcommunication,wewillencounterdifficultieswhentranslatingthesourcelanguageintothetargetone.Itiswidelyacknowledgedthatlanguageisasystemofsignswhichareacceptedbypeoplethroughrepeatedpractice.However,weshouldnotsolelyattachthegreatimportanc
