4、iaries,anditsmomentum,aregreatandcontestingitseemsanalmostutopianundertaking.Butglobalizationhasitsvulnerabilities,andattackingitintellectually,atthelocallevelofplantabandonmentsandmoves,aswellasatthenationalpoliticallevelcanhelpbuildunderstandingandsupportforala
5、rgeroppositionalmovement.GlobalizationasIdeologyGlobalizationisjustoneofanarrayofconceptsandarguingpointsthathavebeenmobilizedtoadvancethecorporateagenda.Othershavebeenderegulationandgettinggovernmentoffourbacks,balancingthebudget,cuttingbackentitlements(non-corp
6、orate),andfreetrade.Likefreetrade,globalizationhasanauraofvirtue.Justas"freedom"mustbegood,soglobalizationhintsatinternationalismandsolidaritybetweencountries,asopposedtonationalismandprotectionism,whichhavenegativeconnotations.Thepossibilitythatcross-bordertrade
7、andinvestmentmightbeeconomicallydamagingtotheweakerparty,orthattheymighterodedemocraticcontrolsinboththestrongerandweakercountries,isexcludedfromconsiderationbymainstreameconomistsandpundits.Itisalsounthinkableinthemainstreamthatthecontestbetweenfreetradeandgloba
