3、eatenprogressiveends,andshouldberecognizedassuchandfoughtateverylevel.Admittedlythisisaformidabletask,astheeconomicandpoliticalpowerofitsbeneficiaries,anditsmomentum,aregreatandcontestingitseemsanalmostutopianundertaking.Butglobalizationhasitsvulnerabilities,andattackingitintellectually,atthelocalle
4、velofplantabandonmentsandmoves,aswellasatthenationalpoliticallevelcanhelpbuildunderstandingandsupportforalargeroppositionalmovement.GlobalizationasIdeologyGlobalizationisjustoneofanarrayofconceptsandarguingpointsthathavebeenmobilizedtoadvancethecorporateagenda.Othershavebeenderegulationandgettinggov
5、ernmentoffourbacks,balancingthebudget,cuttingbackentitlements(non-corporate),andfreetrade.Likefreetrade,globalizationhasanauraofvirtue.Justas"freedom"mustbegood,soglobalizationhintsatinternationalismandsolidaritybetweencountries,asopposedtonationalismandprotectionism,whichhavenegativeconnotations.Th
6、epossibilitythatcross-bordertradeandinvestmentmightbeeconomicallydamagingtotheweakerparty,orthattheymighterodedemocraticcontrolsinboththestrongerandweakercountries,isexcludedfromconsiderationbymainstreameconomistsandpundits.Itisalsounthinkableinthemainstreamthatthecontestbetweenfreetradeandglobaliza
7、tion,ontheonehand,and"protectionism,"ontheother,mightberewordedasastrugglebetween"protection"--oftransnationalcorporate(TNC)rights--versusthe"freedom"ofdemocraticgovernmentstoregulateintheinterestsofd
