2、daptedincontemporarycommunications-basedsocieties;itlacksapplicability,flexibilityanddurability.CouldProblem-basedLearning(PBL)providearadicalalternative?StudentteacherswhogainexperienceofPBLduringtheirinitialprofessionaldevelopmentwillcarrymessagesaboutPBLintoschoolsand
3、colleges.Innovationisbornfromseedssuchasthese.Traditionalapproachesininitialteachereducation(ITE),strugglingtokeeppacewithchange,riskfallingintoananti-reflexiveabyss,tellingstudentstoteachtowardsunderstandingwhilefailingtomodeltheirownmessages.ThispaperexploreswhatPBLcan
4、contributetoITE.ItreportshowPBLwasintroducedintoanestablishedprofessionalstudiesprogrammeinanITEcourse.ThePBLexperienceisevaluatedusingastudentteacherquestionnaire,groupfeedback,tutorobservationandassessmentoffinalprojectreports.PBLisdiscussedintermsofitsrelationshipwith
