6、ChinaandHongKong.)LiwastheeldestofsixchildrenwhospenttheirearlyyearsinChaozhou.Li’sfather,LiYuan-jing,wasalocalschoolteacherwhoemphasizedtheimportanceofeducationtoLiandhisotherchildren.SoonafterJapanesemilitaryforcesinvadedManchuriain1931,Japanestablishedco
7、ntrolovertheschoolsintheregion.Asaresult,LiandhisclassmatesweretaughttoreadandwriteinbothJapaneseandChinese.Inthe1930s,theJapaneseoccupyingforcestransformedManchuriaintoamilitarybasetolaunchnewmilitaryforaysintomainlandChina.4(SeeExhibit3,ImportantHistorica
