2、theanalyticaltechniquesemployed,theexplanationswehavefoundtobefruitful,andourviewoftheprocessbywhichregionsgrowanddecline.Itisourbeliefthatthetechniquesandconclusionswillprovetobeusefulintheanalysisofgrowthdifferentialsamonganysetofregions,subnationalornationalunits,whicharecon
3、nectedtogetherbyUberaitradingarrangements.Itwouldbepresumptuousofustoattempttodevelopherethefullimplica•tionsofthisanalysisforrecentdevelopmentsinWesternEurope.Nevertheless,wehopetosuggestpossibleapplicationsinthehopethatthetechniquesmaybeimprovedandusedmorewidely.Weshalldefine
