3、ithspecialemphasisonmarineanimalsandalsoKeywords:algaeduringthelastdecadesofthe20thcenturyhasrevealedtheimportanceofmarineorganismsasMarinebacteriaproducersofsubstancesusefulforthetreatmentofhumandiseases.ThoughalargenumberofbioactiveMarinefungisubstanceshavebeenidentified,somema

4、nyyearsago,onlyrecentlythefirstdrugsfromtheoceanswereBioassaysapproved.Quiteastonishingly,theimmensediversityofmicrobesinthemarineenvironmentsandtheirNaturalproductsalmostuntouchedcapacitytoproducenaturalproductsandthereforetheimportanceofmicrobesformarineMicrobialinteractionsCom

5、poundlibrarybiotechnologywasrealizedonabroadbasisbythescientificcommunitiesonlyrecently.ThishasStraincollectionstrengthenedworldwideresearchactivitiesdealingwiththeexplorationofmarinemicroorganismsforMarinebiotechnologyinEuropebiotechnologicalapplications,whichcomprisetheproducti

6、onofbioactivecompoundsforpharmaceuticalGeneticresourcesuse,aswellasthedevelopmentofothervaluableproducts,suchasenzymes,nutraceuticalsandcosmetics.Whilethefocusinthesefieldswasmainlyonmarinebacteria,alsomarinefunginowreceivegrowingattention.Althoughculture-dependentstudiescontinue

7、toprovideinterestingnewchemicalstructureswithbiologicalactivitiesatahighrateandrepresenthighlypromisingapproachesforthesearchofnewdrugs,explorationanduseofgenomicandmetagenomicresourcesareconsideredtofurtherincreasethispotential.Manyeffortsaremadeforthesustainableexplorationofma
