4、etyoftechnologies,inparticularadvancedprocesscontrolanddiagnosticmethods.Notonlyhasthetechnologyprogressedandnewtechnologyemerged,butourunderstandingofthefundamentalsofunitprocesses,rawmaterialsandproductpropertieshasalsodeepenedconsiderably.Thevariationsintheindust
5、ry'sheterogeneousrawmaterials,andthesophisticationofpulpingandpapermakingprocessesrequireaprofoundunderstandingofthemechanismsinvolved.Paperandboardproductsarecomplexinstructureandcontainmanydifferentcomponents.Therequirementsplacedonthewaytheseproductsperformarewid
6、e,variedandoftenconflicting.Thoseinvolvedinproductdevelopmentwillcontinuetoneedaprofoundunderstandingofthechemistryandphysicsofbothrawmaterialsandproductstructures.Paperhasplayedavitalroleintheculturaldevelopmentofmankind.Itstillhasakeyroleincommunicationandisneeded
7、inmanyotherareasofoursociety.Thereisnodoubtthatitwillcontinuetohaveanimportantplaceinthefuture.Papermust,however,maintainitscompetitivenessthroughcontinuousproductdevelopmentinordertomeettheever-increasingdemandsonitsperformance.Itmustalsobeproducedeconomicallybyenv
8、ironment-friendlyprocesseswiththeminimumuseofresources.Tomeetthesechallenges,everyoneworkinginthisfieldmustseeksolutionsbyapplyingthebasic
