4、ndproductionspeedsleavelittleroomforerrorormalfunction.Modernpapermakingwouldnotbepossiblewithoutapropercommandofagreatvarietyoftechnologies,inparticularadvancedprocesscontrolanddiagnosticmethods.Notonlyhasthetechnologyprogressedandnewtechnologyemerged,buto
5、urunderstandingofthefundamentalsofunitprocesses,rawmaterialsandproductpropertieshasalsodeepenedconsiderably.Thevariationsintheindustry抯heterogeneousrawmaterials,andthesophisticationofpulpingandpapermakingprocessesrequireaprofoundunderstandingofthemechanisms
6、involved.Paperandboardproductsarecomplexinstructureandcontainmanydifferentcomponents.Therequirementsplacedonthewaytheseproductsperformarewide,variedandoftenconflicting.Thoseinvolvedinproductdevelopmentwillcontinuetoneedaprofoundunderstandingofthechemistryan
7、dphysicsofbothrawmaterialsandproductstructures.Paperhasplayedavitalroleintheculturaldevelopmentofmankind.Itstillhasakeyroleincommunicationandisneededinmanyotherareasofoursociety.Thereisnodoubtthatitwillcontinuetohaveanimportantplaceinthefuture.Papermust,how
8、ever,maintainitscompetitivenessthroughcontinuousproductdevelopmentinordertomeettheever-increasingdemandsonitsperformance.Itmustalsobeproducedeconomicallybyenvironment-friendlyprocesseswiththeminimumuse
