3、ideredbothproductioncostsandinventoryholdingcostsovertime.Theyusedcalculusofvariationstechniquestosolvethecontinuous-timeversionoftheirmodel.InSection6.1,amodelofThompsonandSethi(1980),similartotheHMMSmodel,isformulatedandcompletelysolvedusingoptimalcontroltheory.Theturnpikesoluti
4、onisalsoobtainedwhenthehorizonisinfinite.InSection6.2,thecontinuouswheattradingmodelofIjiriandThompson(1970)isintroduced.Inthismodelawheatspeculatormustbuyandsellwheatinanoptimalwayinordertotakeadvantageofchangesinthepriceofwheatovertime.Thismodelpermitsshort-sellingofwheat.Themod
