3、hoflearningsprungupin1990s,hasundergoneatremendousdevelopment,likeanystudyofmulti-disciplinaryissues,itwasdeniedandignoredbysomescholarsforalongtime,butnowadaysitbecomesaprosperoussubjectthatdealswiththestudyandapplicationofapproachestoanalyzewritten,spoke
4、norsignedlanguage.Contrarytomuchoftraditionallinguistics,discourseanalystsnotonlystudylanguageusebeyondthelexical,phraseandsentenceboundary,butalsoprefertoanalyze“naturallyoccurring”languageuse.Thispaper,ingeneral,isanintroductiontodiscourseanddiscourseana
5、lysis,whichisdividedintotwoparts:theoreticalpartandpracticalpart.Theformerwhichpresentsascholarlysetofideas,andthelaterisdevotedtotheaccountofthestudyinordertosupporttheideaspresentedinthefirstchapter.theformerpartissubdividedintothreechapters.Thefirstchap
6、terprovidesathoroughdescriptionoftheterm‘discourse’itself,includingexamplesofvarioustypesandfeatures.Thesecondonepresentstheoriginsanddevelopmentofdiscourseanalysis.Andthelastchapteroftheoreticalpartprovidesthewaysofapplyingthetheorytoteachingandlearningva
7、riousaspectsofEnglishlanguage,suchasgrammar,textreadingandcomprehension,andtheemphasisisputontheinterpretationofwrittentext.16ThepracticalpartofthispaperdescribesthestudyconductedonagroupofpolishlearnersofEnglish.Thiscomponentfocusesonfindinglexicalchainsi
