4、uagescouldbesystematicallycompared.InFranceandGermanyduringthesameperiod,TheDirectMethod,wasdeveloped.Bytheearly20thcenturytheDirectMethodhadbeenofficiallyadoptedinFrenchandGermanschools.WhentheUSAenteredtheSecondWorldWaritsuddenlybecameclearthatoralskillsinforeignlanguageswerenecessary.Theauthorit

5、iesturnedtotheStructuralLinguiststoseekforascientificdescriptionoflanguageandtotheBehavioristPsychologistsforascientificdescriptionoflearning.TheresultoftheircooperationbecameknownastheAudio-lingualMethod.Inthe1950sand1960s,theOralandSituationalMethodsparallelingtheAudio-lingualMethod,developedinBr
