2、ewcallsitaShurandMizmor,acombinationofpsalmandsong,whichmaybebestdescribedbytheterm,"ALyricalPoem."InthiscasethePsalmmaybesaidorsung,andbeequallysuitable.WehavehadtwosuchPsalmsbefore,Psalms30and48,andwehavenowthefirstofalittleseriesoffourfollowingeachother.ItwasmeantthatPsalms
3、ofpleadingandlongingshouldbefollowedbyhymnsofpraise.SUBJECTANDDIVISIONS.DavidsingsofthegloryofGodinhischurch,andinthefieldsofnature:hereisthesongbothofgraceandprovidence.Itmaybethatheintendedherebytocommemoratearemarkablyplentifulharvest,ortocomposeaharvesthymnforallages.Itapp
4、earstohavebeenwrittenafteraviolentrebellionhadbeenquelled,Ps65:7,andforeignenemieshadbeensubduedbysignalvictory,Ps65:8.Itisoneofthemostdelightfulhymnsinanylanguage.WeshallviewinPs65:1-4thewayofapproachtoGod,thenfromPs65:5-8weshallseetheLordinanswertoprayerperformingwondersforw

6、,andknowthemselvestobelongtothechurchofthefirstborn,canneverthinkofherwithoutpresentinghumblepraisetoZion'sGod;hismerciesaretoonumerousandprecioustobeforgotten.ThepraisesofthesaintswaitforasignalfromthedivineLord,andwhenheshowshisfacetheyburstforthatonce.Likeacompanyofmusician
7、sgatheredtowelcomeandhonouraprince,whowaittillhemakeshisappearance,sodowereserveourbestpraisestilltheLordrevealshimselfintheassemblyofhissaints;and,indeed,tillheshalldescendfromheaveninthedayofhisappearing.Praisealsowaitslikeaservantorcourtierintheroyalhalls--gratitudeishumble
