4、frameworkcalledthehierarchicaldatamodel.TheSABREsystemformakingairlinereservationswasjointlydevelopedbyAmericanAirlinesandIBMaroundthesametime,anditallowedseveralpeopletoaccessthesamedatathroughcomputernetwork.Interestingly,todaythesameSABREsystemisusedtopowerpopularWeb-basedtravelservicess

5、uchasTravelocity!In1970,EdgarCodd,atIBM’sSanJoseResearchLaboratory,proposedanewdatarepresentationframeworkcalledtherelationaldatamodel.Thisprovedtobeawatershedinthedevelopmentofdatabasesystems:itsparkedrapiddevelopmentofseveralDBMSsbasedontherelationalmodel,alongwitharichbodyoftheoreticalre

6、sultsthatplacedthefieldonafirmfoundation.Coddwonthe1981TuringAwardforhisseminalwork.Databasesystemsmaturedasanacademicdiscipline,andthepopularityofrelationalDBMSschangedthecommerciallandscape.Theirbenefitswerewidelyrecognized,andtheuseofDBMSsformanagingcorporatedatabecamestandardpractice.In
