4、medthebasisforanalternativedatarepresentationframeworkcalledthehierarchicaldatamodel.TheSABREsystemformakingairlinereservationswasjointlydevelopedbyAmericanAirlinesandIBMaroundthesametime,anditallowedseveralpeopletoaccessthesamedatathroughcomputernetwork.Interestingly,toda
5、ythesameSABREsystemisusedtopowerpopularWeb-basedtravelservicessuchasTravelocity!In1970,EdgarCodd,atIBM，sSanJoseResearchLaboratory,proposedanewdatarepresentationframeworkcalledtherelationaldatamodel.Thisprovedtobeawatershedinthedevelopmentofdatabasesystems:itsparkedrapiddev
6、elopmentofseveralDBMSsbasedontherelationalmodel,alongwitharichbodyoftheoreticalresultsthatplacedthefieldonafirmfoundation.Coddwonthe1981TuringAwardforhisseminalwork.Databasesystemsmaturedasanacademicdiscipline,andthepopularityofrelationalDBMSschangedthecommerciallandscape.
7、Theirbenefitswerewidelyrecognized,andtheuseofDBMSsformanagingcorporatedatabecamestandardpractice.Inthe1980s,therelationalmodelconsolidateditspositionasthedominantDBMSparadigm,anddatabasesystemscontinuedtogainwidespreaduse.TheSQLquerylanguageforrelationaldatabases,developed
