3、aphs,shortvowels,andone-syllablewordswithsixcommonvowelpatterns:shortvowels,shortvowelswithconsonantblends,finale,longvoweldigraphs(lvd),r-controlled(r-c),andothervoweldigraphs(ovd).Inflectionalendingsanddifferentkindsofpolysyllabicpatternsarealsoexamin

4、ed.Students’responsescanalsobeusedtoindirectlyevaluatetheirknowledgeofblendingandthealphabeticnatureofreadinginEnglish.TheBPST-IIismostinformativewhenstudentsarereadingbelowafourthgradelevelonagradedwordlistsuchastheSanDiegoorongradedpassages.Atfourthgr

5、adereadinglevelsandabove,studentstentotknowmostofthecontent.Insuchcases,itmakesmoresensetoevaluateerrorsmadewhilereadingconnectedtextandhigherlevelgradedwordslists,payingparticularattentiontowhetherstudentsaremissingpolysyllabicwordsbecausetheyhavenever
