3、esonspecialoccasionsaswellasashrineforofferingsacrificestotheircommonancestors.OtherwisecalledChenClanAcademy,itwasalsoaschoolforchildrenoftheChenfamilies.In1959,itwasconvertedintotheGuangdongFolkArtMuseum,forthetemplestructureitselfisacomprehensiveexpre
4、ssionoftheexquisiteGuangdongfolkartsandcrafts.Coveringagroundspaceof15,000squaremeters,withafloorspaceof6,400squaremeters,thetempleisbuiltinthetraditionalChinesearchitecturalstyle.Itislaidoutinasymmetricalway,withthelongitudinalcentrallineastheaxisandthe
5、structuresononesidecorrespondingexactlywiththoseontheother.Itswide-openmainhallsandthelattice-walledwing-roomsareinterspacedbycourtyardsandconnectedwithcorridors,andhugesuspendedorfloorscreensaswellassolidbrickwallsareusedaspartitionsbetweenhallsandcourt
6、yardsandbetweenrooms;thuscreatinganartisticeffectofbeingstructurallycompactbutappearingspaciousandmagnificent,andproducingacontrastingeffectofthebigwiththesmall,thehighwiththelow,theopenwiththehiddenandthetruewiththefalse.Anotherfeatureofthetemplestructu
