2、implementedusinggeneralpurposedigitalsignalprocessingchipsforaudioapplications,orspecialpurposedigitalfilteringchipsandapplication-specificintegratedcircuits(ASICs)forhigherrates.Thispaperdescribesanapproachtotheimplementationofdigitalfilteralgorithmsbasedonfieldprogrammablegatea
3、rrays(FPGAs).TheadvantagesoftheFPGAapproachtodigitalfilterimplementationincludehighersamplingratesthanareavailablefromtraditionalDSPchips,lowercoststhananASICformoderatevolumeapplications,andmoreflexibilitythanthealternateapproaches.SincemanycurrentFPGAarchitecturesarein-systempr
4、ogrammable,theconfigurationofthedevicemaybechangedtoimplementdifferentfunctionalityifrequired.OurexamplesillustratethattheFPGAapproachisbothflexibleandprovidesperformancecomparableorsuperiortotraditionalapproaches.1.INTRODUCTIONThemostcommonapproachestotheimplementationofdigitalf
5、ilteringalgorithmsaregeneralpurposedigitalsignalprocessingchipsforaudioapplications,orspecialpurposedigitalfilteringchipsandapplication-specificintegratedcircuits(ASICs)forhigherrates[9,14].Thispaperdescribesanapproachtotheimplementationofdigitalfilteralgorithmsonfieldprogrammabl
6、egatearrays(FPGAs).RecentadvancesinFPGAtechnologyhaveenabledthesedevicestobeappliedtoavarietyofapplicationstraditionallyreservedforASICs.FPGAsarewellsuitedtodatapathdesigns,suchasthoseencounteredindigitalfilteringapplications.Thedensityofthenewprogrammabledevicesissuchthatanontri
