2、eneralpurposedigitalsignalprocessingchipsforaudioapplications,orspecialpurposedigitalfilteringchipsandapplication-specificintegratedcircuits(ASICs)forhigherrates.Thispaperdescribesanapproachtotheimplementationofdigitalfilteralgorithmsbasedonfieldprogrammablegatearrays(FPGAs).TheadvantagesoftheFPG
3、AapproachtodigitalfilterimplementationincludehighersamplingratesthanareavailablefromtraditionalDSPchips,lowercoststhananASICformoderatevolumeapplications,andmoreflexibilitythanthealternateapproaches.SincemanycurrentFPGAarchitecturesarein-systemprogrammable,theconfigurationofthedevicemaybechangedt
4、oimplementdifferentfunctionalityifrequired.OurexamplesillustratethattheFPGAapproachisbothflexibleandprovidesperformancecomparableorsuperiortotraditionalapproaches.1.INTRODUCTIONThemostcommonapproachestotheimplementationofdigitalfilteringalgorithmsaregeneralpurposedigitalsignalprocessingchipsforau
5、dioapplications,orspecialpurposedigitalfilteringchipsandapplication-specificintegratedcircuits(ASICs)forhigherrates[9,14].Thispaperdescribesanapproachtotheimplementationofdigitalfilteralgorithmsonfieldprogrammablegatearrays(FPGAs).RecentadvancesinFPGAtechnologyhaveenabledthesedevicestobeappliedto
