3、erearetwosubjectsandtwoverbs,itisstillasimplesentencebecausebothverbssharethesamesubjectsandexpressonecompletethought.CompoundSentences-Acompoundsentencehastwoindependentclauses.Anindependentclauseisapartofasentencethatcanstandalonebecauseitcontainsasubjectandaverbandexpressesacompl
4、etethought.-Basically,acompoundcontainstwosimplesentences.-Theseindependentclausesarejoinedbyaconjunction(for,and,nor,but,or,yet,so).Examples:1.Theshoplifterhadstolenclothes,soheranoncehesawthepolice.^Bothsidesoftheconjunction“so”arecompletesentences.“Theshoplifterhadstolenclothes”c
5、anstandaloneandsocan“heranoncehesawthepolice.”Therefore,thisisacompoundsentence.2.TheyspoketohiminSpanish,butherespondedinEnglish.^Thisisalsoacompoundsentencethatusesaconjunctiontoseparatetwoindividualclauses.ComplexSentences-Acomplexsentenceisanindependentclausejoinedbyoneormoredep
6、endentclauses.Adependentclauseeitherlacksasubjectoraverborhasbothasubjectandaverbthatdoesnotexpressacompletethought.-Acomplexsentencealwayshasasubordinator(as,because,since,after,although,when)orrelativepronouns(who,that,which).Examples:1.AftereatinglunchatTheCheesecakeFactory,Timwe
