3、1,300otherschools.TheanalysesshowedthatCoreKnowledgeschoolsexcelledtheotherschoolsinachievementprogressineightoftencomparisonsofreadingandmathematicsinthefivegradelevelsavailableforanalysis.ThepresentreportaddsthedatafortheotherschoolsinNorthCarolinab

4、utemploysthesamesampleofCoreKnowledgeschoolsandthesametestsanddemographicindicatorsasanalyzedinthepreviousreport.Sothatthepresentreportcanbereadindependentlyintheabsenceofthepreviousreport,theinformationaboutthesampleandtestsareincludedinthisreport.II

5、.MethodofResearchA.SampleTheanalysesmakeuseofachievementtestanddemographicinformationaboutstudentsintheCoreKnowledgeschoolsforthelasttwoschoolyears,2001-2002,and32002-2003,availablefromtheNorthCarolinaDepartmentofPublicInstruction.OftheeightCoreKnowle

6、dgeschoolsinthestate,dataareunavailablefortwo—oneaprivateschoolthatdidnotparticipateinthetestingprogramandtheotheraschoolthatatthetimeoftestingservedonlyprimarygradestudentsthatdidnotparticipateinthetestingforboth3Thewebsiteofthedatasourceishttp://www
