4、operties.Forthisreason,dynamicsecondarycoolingandsoftreductiontechnologyhavebeentwoofthekeytechnologiesadoptedbymanysteelplantsthroughouttheworldinthepastfewyearstoimproveslabquality.Incasting,theinterdendriticliquidsteelinthemushyzoneofthefinalsolidificationstageflowstothecentreareathroughconvec
5、tionandbulging.Thisleadstocentrelinesegregation.Thevolumecontractionofsteelonsolidificationcanalsoleadtocentralporositywherethereispoorfeedingorcompensation.Also,thecyclicalcoolingandreheatingofthestrandsurfacetemperatureduringcastingisconnectedwiththeformationofbroadfacecracking,subsurfacecrac
6、kingandotherdefects.Theappearanceandintensityofcentresegregationandcentreporosityorotherdefectsarecloselyrelatedtosteelgrade,liquidsteelsuperheat,castingspeedandcoolinghistory.Dynamicsoftreduction,combinedwithdynamicsecondarycooling,hasbeenshowntobeaneffectivewaytominimisecentresegregationandp
