2、annedbehaviour(TPB)inasampleof196studies.Tworelatedcorrelationmatrices(pairwiseandlistwise)weresynthesizedfromthedataandusedtomodeltheTPBrelationswithpathanalyses.ConvergentevidenceindicatedthattherelationbetweenDNandBEHwasstrongerthantherelationbetweenINandBEH.Evidence
3、alsosuggestedasignificantdirectrelationbetweenDNandBEHinthecontextofTPB.AsuppressoreffectofINonDNinitsrelationwithBEHwasalsonoted.ModeratoranalysesindicatedthattheDN-BEHrelationwasstrongerwhentherewasmoretimebetweenmeasuresofcognitionandbehaviour,whenbehaviourswerenotso
4、ciallyapproved,moresociallymotiveandmorepleasant:resultsweremixedinthecaseoftheIN-BEHrelation.ResultsimplythatINandDNareconceptuallydifferentconstructs.Associalbeings,normativepressureinevitablyaffectsourbehaviour.Socialnonnsinfluencethewaywedress,howwevote,whatwebuy,an
5、dahostofotherbehaviouraldecisions.Socialpsychologistshavebeenexploringtheinfluenceofsocialnormsonbehaviourfordecades.FromAsch'sandMilgramsconformity-experiments(Asch,19S6;Milgram,Bickman,&Berkowitz,1969)throughrecentworkbyCialdiniandcolleagues(Cialdini,Reno.&Kallgren,19
6、90;Reno,Cialdini,&Kallgren,1993),asubstantialbodyofevidencehasdemonstratedthatpeopleconformtothejudgmentsandbehavioursofothers.InexperimentsconductedbyCialdiniandhiscolleagues(Cialdinietal.,1990;Renoetal.,1993),participantsinferredbehaviouralnormsforlitteringfromenviron
7、mentalcuesandactedinaccordwiththesenorms.Theresultshighlightthefactthatperceptionsofnorms,ratberthanactualnorms,canaffectbehaviour.Tlierelationbetweenperceivednormsandbebaviourhasreceivedmuchempiricalsupport(Borsari&Carey,2003;Campo,Brossard,Fnizer.Marchell,Lewis,&Talbo
