2、NWEIWANG,1andTAOHUNG1ABSTRACTToevaluatehumoralimmunityagainsttheSARS-associatedcoronavirus(SARS-CoV),westudiedthepro-filesofIgGantibodiestothenucleocapsid(N)andspike(S)proteinsofSARS-CoV.Serumspecimensfrom10SARSpatientswereanalyzedbyWesternblottingandanenzyme
3、-linkedimmunosorbentassay(ELISA)usingpurifiedrecombinantNandtruncatedS(S1,S2,andS3)proteinsasantigens.Westernblottingresultsdemonstratedthat100%oftheSARSpatientstestedpositiveforNprotein-specificantibodies,50%forS1protein-specificantibodies,30%forS2protein-sp
4、ecificantibodies,and70%forS3protein-specificantibod-ies.TheELISAresults,whichshowedpositiveratesofIgGreactivityagainstrecombinantproteinsN,S1,S2,andS3,were,respectively,28.57,14.29,14.29,and14.29%atweek1,77.78,55.56,44.44,and66.67%atweek2,100,75,75,and87.5%at
5、week3,and100,77.78,77.78,and88.89%after3weeks.TheaveragetitersofIgGagainstrecombinantproteinsN,S1,S2,andS3were,respectively,691,56,38,and84after3weeks.TheseresultssuggestthattherecombinantproteinsNandS3arepotentiallyusefulantigensforaserologicaldiag-nosisofSA
6、RS.Inconsiderationofpossiblecross-reactivityamongNproteinsofSARS-CoVandothercoro-naviruses,immunoassaysusingrecombinantNproteinincombinationwithS3asantigensmightimprovethespecificityofSARSdiagnoses.INTRODUCTIONimperativetounderstandthedifferencesbetweenSARS-C
