2、eractionsbetweentheporcinereproductiveandrespiratorysyndromevirus(PRRSV)andtheporcineinterferon-a(IFN-a)systemwerestudied.Inafirstex•periment,itwasshownthatpretreatmentofprimaryporcinealveolarmacrophages(AMs)withrecombinantporcine(rPo)IFN-aIresultedinsignificantreducti

3、onsofPRRSVyieldandnumbersofantigenexpressingcells.Inasecondexperiment,sensitivityofPRRSVtoIFN-awasconfirmedinvivo.Inpigsinoculatedwithporcinerespiratorycoronavirus(PRCV)-apotentinducerofendogenousIFN-ainthelungsofpigs-followed2dayslaterbyPRRSV-IungPRRSVtiterswere1.7to2

4、.9logloTCIDsoreducedcomparedtothoseinsinglyPRRSVinoculatedpigs.ItwasconcludedthereforethatPRRSVhasafairlygoodsensitivitytotheantiviraleffectsofIFN-a.AthirdexperimentdocumentedthatinvivoPRRSVinfectiongenerallydoesnotaffectPRCV-inducedIFN-aproductioninthelungsofpigs.Inad

5、dition,itwasshownthattheIFN-inducingcapacityofPRRSVisatleast159timeslowerthanthatofPRCV.ThisfindingsuggeststhatcellsotherthanAMsmayberesponsibleforIFNproductioninthelungsofpigs.2.INTRODUCTIONInfectionwiththeporcinereproductiveandrespiratorysyndromevirus(PRRSV)mostfrequ
