2、tibodiesagainsthumancoronavirusOC43indifferentagegroupsweremeasuredbycomplementfixation(CF),haemagglutinationinhibition(HI),radialdiffusionhaemolysis-in-gel(HIG),andsolid-phaseradioimmunoassay(RIA)methods.Antigengrowninsucklingmousebrainwasusedinalltests.Resultsobtainedbyth
3、eCFandHIGtests,andtheRIA,wereingoodagree-mentwithregardtothepresenceorabsenceofantibodies.SimilarresultswerealsoobtainedwiththeHItestifnonspecifichaemagglutinationinhibitorswerefirstremovedbytreatmentwithphospholipaseCandonlytitersof1:20orgreaterwereconsideredpositive.Child
4、ren6-23monthsofage(n=45)werewithoutmeasurablecorona-virusantibodiesinallfourassays.Arapidincreaseintheprevalenceofanti-bodiesthenoccurredinsubsequentagegroups,andpracticallyallpersons6yearsofageorolderwerefoundtohaveOC43antibodiesasmeasuredbytheHIGtestortheRIA.Themeanantibo
5、dylevelsdeterminedbythesetwomethodscontinuedtoincrease,however,uptotheagegroupof10-14years.Thisin-creaseinantibodylevelsaftertheinitialantibodyincidenceplateaumaybeduetoboostingeffectscausedbyrelatedcoronavirusstrains,sinceOC43anti-gensareknowntocross-reactwithantibodiesind
