3、e5terminiofthetwosmallestmRNAsofthe3-coterminalnestedset:mRNAAandmRNAB.ThisregioncontainsthecompletecodingsequencesformRNABwhichareadditionaltothosepresentinmRNAA.Twoopenreadingframesarepresent,predictingproteinsofM,s7500and9500.INTRODUCTIONthesetwocoronaviruse
4、s.First,MHVhassixmajorsubgenomicRNAswhereasIBVhasonlyfive(SternAvianIBV,incommonwithothercoronaviruses,andKennedy,1980b;Laietal.,1981).Second,thehasasingle-stranded,polyadenylated,infectiouscodingfunctionofthevariousmessengerRNAsisRNAgenomeapprox.20kbinlength(S
5、ternanddifferent.BothIBVandMHVcontainthreemainKennedy,1980a).Ininfectedcellsmultiplesub-structuralpolypeptides:thenucleocapsid,thegenomicpositive-strandedRNAsareproducedmembrane(El),andthespikeorpeplomer(E2)(Siddelletal.,1983).ForIBVandMHVthesehavepolypeptides(
6、Cavanagh,1981;Siddelletal.,1983).beenshowntoconsistofa3-coterminalnestedInbothsystemsthesmallestRNAcodesfortheset(StemandKennedy,1980a;Laietal.,1981;nucleocapsidproteinbutinMHVthenextsmallestLeibowitzetal.,1981).ForbothIBVandMHVtheRNAcodesforthemembranepolypept
