2、vationalSelfSystem(L2MSS)theoryisacomparativelynewoutcomeofmotivationtheoriesinthefieldofsecondlanguageacquisition.IthasbeensetupbyZoltánDörnyeiintheyearof2005.L2MotivationalSelfSystemmainlyconsistsofthreeparts,namelyidealL2self,ought-toL2selfandL2learningexperience.Thebasichypothesisofthist
3、heoryisthatiftheabilitytoefficientlyusethetargetlanguageisthemainpartoflearner’sidealL2self(orought-toL2self),thenthelearnerwillhavepowerfullearninggoalsandmotivationtostudythislanguage,duetohisorherwilltoreducethedifferencebetweencurrentselfandfutureself.Asanewtheory,L2MotivationalSelfSyste
4、mtheoryhasreceivedwideconcernsfromabroadandathome.Foreignresearchershavemadesomedetailedstudies,whileinChinatherearestilllotsofsurveysneededtobedone,especiallyempiricalstudies.Basedonthereality,thisstudyaimstoexploretheoverallsituationofEnglishmajors’L2MotivationalSelfSystem,itsdifferencesam
5、ongEnglishmajors,andthepossiblefactorscorrelatingtothosedifferences.Thisstudyexploresthecurrentconditionof224Englishmajors’L2MSS,byconductingquestionnairesandsemi-structuredinterviews.Thedata,comingfromquestionnairesandinterviews,areanalyzedbyusingStatisticsPackageforSocialScience(SPSS17.0).
6、DescriptivestatisticsanalysisisfirstlyusedtoanalyzethecurrentdistributionofthethreemainpartsofL2MSSamongthosesubjects.Then,IndependentSampleT-testistakentoexplorewhethertherearesomedifferencesofthreecomponentsofL2MSSbetweendifferentL2proficiencygroups(highscoregroupandlowscoregroup).Atlast,b
7、yusingPearsoncorrelationandregressionanalysis,thissurveydiscussesthepotentiallyinfluencingfactorsresultinginthosedifferences.Themajorfindingsare:1)EnglishmajorstendtohavepositiveL2MotivationalSelfSystem.Asforthethreesubscales,theparticipantshavecom
