1、Lincoln’sBoyhoodYearsAbrahamLincolnwasborninalogcabinin1809inKentucky.HisparentswereThomasandNancyLincoln.TheLincolnslivedonthefarmwhereAbrahamwasbornfortwoyears.Lincoln’sBoyhoodYearsWhenAbrahamwas8yearsold,hisfamilymovedtoIndiana.Hehelpedhisfatherbuildalogcab
2、inwhichwasreadytoliveinduringthewinterof1817.Lincoln’sBoyhoodYearsAbrahamlovedtoread,butthefamilywaspoorandtheboycouldnotgetmanybooks.Abewouldreadwheneverhecould,evenwhileherestedfromplowingthefields!AbrahamGrowsUpLincolngrewtobeatallandstrongteenager.In1828,a
3、t19,hehelpedtotakeaflatboatdowntheOhioRivertoNewOrleans.ThereLincolnsawforthefirsttimeslavesbeingsoldinthemarketplace.Lincolnwouldworktoendslaveryfortherestofhislife.AbrahamGrowsUpLincolnstudiedlawinhissparetimeandbecamealawyerin1836.LincolnmetMaryTodd,alively
4、girlfromKentucky.TheyweremarriedinNovemberof1842whenLincolnwas33yearsold.Lincoln'sEarlyPoliticsLincolnbelievedthattheUnitedStatesstoodforfreedomforall.HewantedtobecomeaUnitedStatesSenator.In1858,LincolndebatedStephenDouglaswhowasalsoacandidatefortheSenatefromI
5、llinois.Thetwomenmadespeechesinsevencities,debatingtheissueofslavery.Lincoln'sEarlyPoliticsManypeopleinthecountryduringthistimeownedslaves.TherewerealsomanyAmericanswhothoughtslaverywaswrong.AbrahamLincolnthoughtthatthisargumentaboutslaverywasdividingthecountr
6、y.Lincolnworkedhardtoendslaveryandmademanypowerfulspeechestospreadhisideas.Lincoln'sEarlyPoliticsBecauseoftheLincoln-Douglasdebates,LincolnbecameknownacrosstheUnitedStates.Lincolndecidedtorunforpresidentin1860.LincolnAsPresidentLincolnbecamethe16thPresidentoft
7、heUnitedStatesonMarch4,1861.Itwasadifficulttimetobepresident.ManySouthernstateswhodidnotagreewithLincolnaboutslaveryseceded,ordeclaredthattheywerenotapartoftheUnitedStates.TheCivilWarbeganinApril,1861.LincolnAsPresidentUnderLincoln’sleadership,hisUnionarmywont
