3、nsocieties.WithrapideconomicdevelopmentinChinainthelasttwodecades,however,thistraditionhasfacedconsiderablechallenges(Yau&Smetana,1996).Inaddition,theendorsementoftheOneChildFamilyPolicyisbelievedtohaveanimpactonthewaythatChineseparentsraisetheirchildren(Xiaetal.,1998).Thisstudyisanefforttodelinea
4、tecurrentChineseadolescentparticipationinthedecision-makingprocesses,andhowthisrelatestoparent-adolescentcommunicationandadolescents'perceptionsoftherelationshipwithlheirparents.ThepresentstudyisuniqueinthatitfocusesonMainlandChineseadolescents,anditusesdecision-makingprocessesasacentralarenaoffam
5、ilyinteractiontoexaminetheassociationamongadolescents'decision-making,communication,andrelationship.TheoreticalPerspectiveThisstudyusesfamilysystemstheoryandtheecologicalperspectiveasitstheoreticalframework.Adolescentsgrowthroughconstantinteractionswiththefamily,andthelargersocialsystems.Theimplic
6、ationoffamilysystemstheoryforthisstudyistofocusnotonlyontheindividualsthatcomposethefamilybutalsoonthepatternsandinteractionsofthefamilymembers・Theecologicalperspective(Bronfenbrenner&Morris,1998)providesaframeworkthatallowsexaminationofassociationsamongadolescents9decision-making,parent-adolescen
