2、iveshavemanyadvantagesoverothercrossaxistransmissionsespeciallyinhighperformanceapplications.Thelackofpublisheddesignexperienceanddesignstandardsmaketheirdesigndifficult.Thisismainlyduetothecomplexgeometriesandtothelackofpracticalexperience.Forthesereasonsfacegearshavenotbeenusedforlong.Thisw
3、orkisaimedatinvestigatingthebehaviorofafacegeartransmissionconsideringcontactpathunderload,loadsharingandstresses,foranunmodifiedgearsetincludingshaftmisalignmentandmodificationonpinionprofile.Theinvestigationiscarriedoutbyintegratinga3DCADsystemandaFEAcode,andbysimulatingthemeshingofpinionan
4、dgearsectorswiththreeteeth,usingcontactelementsandanautomatedcontactalgorithm.Theproceduresfollowedtocreatethe3Dmodelsofteethinmesharedescribedandfiniteelementanalysisresultsdiscussedshowingthedifferencesbetweenunmodified,modifiedandmisalignedteeth.Resultsshowtheinfluenceofloadontheoretically
