3、.Sometimesreverselogisticsisregardedasarecyclingprocessinvolvingaluminumcans,papers,plasticandglass.Reverselogisticsisactuallyveryinvolvedandcanbeextremelycomplex.Manycompanieswithlimitedresourcesoutsourcetheirreverselogisticsoperationneedstothird-partyprovider
4、s.Asanexample,manycompaniesuseNetReturn,anInternetsystemthatFederalExpresshasdevelopedforreverselogisticsmanagement.NetReturnfacilitatesreturnsformerchantsonceacustomerhasrequestedareturnandbeenprovidedauthorizationtoreturnaproduct.Thesethird-partycompaniessuch
5、asFedEx,ASTRAandGENCO,notonlyaidthereturnprocessofgoodsbyschedulingthepickupandtransportation,theyalsocollectcustomerinformationandtrackthestatusofreturneditems.Overthelastdecade,reverselogisticshashadasignificanteconomicimpactonindustryaswellassociety.Thisimpa
6、ctcanbeseeneitherasdetrimentaltoacompany,andthusavoided,orasacompetitiveadvantagewithpotentialforcapturingmarketshare.Companiesthatreceiveitemsbackfromthecustomerwhotrytohidefromthesignificanceofreverselogisticsmissprofit-makingopportunities.Ontheotherhand,comp
